Rebecca Luker: Leaving Home
From the “home” of the Broadway stage (Julie Andrews calls her “one of the loveliest talents to come from Broadway”), singer Rebecca Luker takes a breathless journey into songs from the folk and pop canon and the world of the new show tune. Rebecca brings her own passion to tunes by Joni Mitchell ("River" and "Chelsea Morning"), Carly Simon ("Boys in the Trees"), Janis Ian ("Getting Over You"), Lennon and McCartney ("She’s Leaving Home"), and Billy Joel ("You’re My Home") and then even finds new colors in the American past (Stephen Foster’s "Old Dog Tray") and Celtic tradition (Tommy Makem’s "Four Green Fields"). Composer Christopher McGovern serves as musical director and album producer and has given Rebecca two tunes -- "Cherish the Child," cut from his Lizzie Borden musical, and "Morningtimes," written especially for this album. Leaving Home also showcases premiere recordings of Amanda McBroom’s "Ophelia" from the forthcoming Will’s Women and "Fine," written by Bill Whitefield and Bill Castellino for the new musical Crash Club.
